You know what the coolest thing is about going to the furniture store, Ikea?
Ikea meatballs.
Tokyo drifting with Ikea trolleys.
Pretending like you're going to buy your dream room that day, but really, you have no money.
Yep, so good.
I've been feeling really under pressure lately and today when I got home I just wanted to chill with people that I felt comfortable with. Turns out my sister was hanging out with friends, mum had a line-up of tv shows that she wanted to watch all night and my brother was "working". I feel so selfish typing this hahahah but I really wanted company tonight but they didn't/couldn't hangout.
I had to go to Ikea tonight to purchase some 50-things for work tomorrow so I went by myself. I really didn't want to, I mean I love going to Ikea... but going alone?
I took my car keys, accepted the reality of everyone else's schedules and put on a happy spotify playlist. This was an opportunity for me to stick to my word, I told my workmates I would get these things from Ikea so I had to do it.
As I sat in my passenger-less car with music blaring I came to a simple thought of life: there are some things we just have to do alone.
I was tempted to guilt trip my sister and tell her to come with me because I'd wait for her, or call a friend who lives nowhere near Ikea to come with me but truth is, I'm not always going to have company. People's lives don't revolve around me and what I want. I'm not always going to get what I want and maybe that's not such a bad thing.
I thank God for giving me the opportunity to spend time alone in a fun, dreamy place like Ikea. I noticed things I have never noticed before, like young families sitting in couches asking their 2 year old which colour they liked, or a worker in a whole section to themselves thinking of or waiting for company (much like I had felt before driving to Ikea). A beautiful part of life is both loving company and loving solitude. How awesome is that?
Wishing you happy days,
Raimz
